Time is Getting Faster

Adeline turns 14 today. The first thing that comes to mind for me about this birthday is a feeling of amazement at the strong, independent woman she’s becoming. Like her mother, grandmothers and great-grandmothers before her, she is learning from the best and growing into one fierce female. I can’t wait to see where that takes her in life.

The second thing that comes to mind is a feeling like time is getting faster. I feel like it was just yesterday I wrote about her birth, her first smile, and her first haircut. How could that time have passed by so quickly?

When I was younger I remember people saying things like, “Don’t blink or you’ll miss it.” I didn’t believe them at the time. Now, as I find myself on the other side of parenthood, I understand.

We can’t slow time, but we can practice being present to appreciate important moments as they pass. There will be more firsts in our lives and I look forward to appreciating them in real-time and documenting them like the proud father I am.
