It’s Bandcamp Friday! I always love picking up some new music on these days because it’s a great way to maximize my support for artists, with all funds going directly to bands and labels. Here’s what I grabbed today:
Who Loves the Sun by Chat Pile: This one’s been in my wishlist for a while now, and I decided that today would be the day to make it mine. One of the most gutteral records I’ve heard in a long time. They’re playing here next month and I’m going to make every effort to see them live. I can imagine they put on an intense show.
The War on Phloc by Phloc: This is technically a pre-order. The full album drops on October 16. Phloc is a noisy, post-rock three piece emerging from the ashes of Pittsburgh’s String Machine (who I loved). Don’t expect String Machine-esque, however. The demos I’ve heard, the one song that’s pre-released ,and performance I saw a few months ago remind me more of bands like Braniac or Ween than the alt-folk of String Machine. These guys are one of the most promising bands in Pittsburgh right now. I’m looking forward to hearing the rest of the record next week and checking them out live.
