I picked up a couple new records for Bandcamp Friday. This is shaping up to be a tremendous year for new music. 2026, man! It’s like the world is providing artists with ample inspiration or something. I digress. Here is what I grabbed.
Hiding Places is a New York-based indie rock outfit that I learned about because they will be opening for Wild Pink here in Pittsburgh next month. I’m planning to go to that show and was curious about the opener. I’m glad I investigated because they rock. The Secret to Good Living is their debut full-length and it slays with some fantastic songwriting and layered musicianship. RIYL: Swapmeet, MJ Lenderman
What’s in the water Twisted Teens have been drinking lately? The Holy Cross Tigers is their 3rd full-length released this year! Thirteen more songs that perfectly straddle the line between unhinged spazz and meticulous songcraft. This is a bit of a departure from August’s Florida Water Blues, but an interesting one. It feels more…produced? Not in a traditional sense, but in a way that makes the record more cohesive. RIYL: vintage White Stripes, Hot Face
