A thought-provoking post from Tech Policy Press about when, how and why to abandon the internet:
The prompt for the event asked us to, “Imagine a future in which digital data is no longer the currency mediating all of our social, economic, and political systems, structures and practices. How might we get there from here?” One of the topics offered as a provocation concerned the internet itself and whether it might make sense now or at some point in the future to abandon it.
There are some interesting takes here. Definitely worth a read. Personally, I’m not one for abandoning the internet, but rather understanding how we got here and the socioeconomic systems at play that make it (sometimes) horrible, and doing the individual work (i.e. my part) to evolve the web into something that serves the people instead of something people serve with their data & attention.
